We are pleased to announce that Pageo has established Pageo Academy.
Pageo Academy is a Category-B Programme that has been recognized by the Secretariat FIG/IHO/ICA International Board of Standards and Competencies or IBSC, International Hydrographic Bureau, Monaco.
Category-B or Cat-B is educational or training programme in hydrographic surveying against the IHO Publications S-5B Standard of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors. Category-B programmes provide a level of practical comprehension, along with the essential theoretical background, necessary for individuals to carry out the various hydrographic surveying tasks. A Category-B programme will introduce subjects from a practical level and aimed at the basic educational for hydrographic technicians and hydrographic surveyors.
The IHO keeps a list of all institutions or professional bodies recognized by the FIG-IHO-ICA IBSC against the Standards of Competence. In Indonesia, there are two Category-B programme that have been recognized by IBSC board members, the Indonesian Navy (PUSHIDROSAL) and PAGEO ACADEMY.
The background of the programme is that a survey company requires experts to carry out their projects. Experts can be developed through experience or training to accelerate their skills, particularly through formal training such as CAT-B by IBSC Standard. However, survey companies are still unable to send their personnel to formal training because formal training, such as CAT-B, requires a minimum 6-month training duration. As a result, the survey company develops informal in-house training. Pageo, as a survey company, invented a breakthrough for the survey industry by dividing six months of CAT-B IBSC standard training into three compartments. Each compartment has a two-month duration. The first compartment, which consists of geodesy, QHSE, basic electronics, and nautical science, covered the basic knowledge for positioning and navigation.
The objectives of the programme cover soft skills and hard skills. For Soft skills students are expected to represent professional attitude and mindset and be able to demonstrate the duties of hydrographic surveyor, demonstrate the implementation of QHSE, and understand the performance and limitation of survey instruments. For hard skills, students are expected to be able to carry out various hydrographic survey duties, includes demonstrating the quality assurance of the survey data and presenting the hydrographic survey results.
